Supporting Nettles and Petals’ Community Project Facing Water Scarcity
Water Scarcity Poses a Risk to The Project Growing Season
The Nettles and Petals community garden in Pickering is a developing space focused on sustainable food growing and environmental education. Founded by Jamie Walton, the garden aims to provide fresh produce and create an inclusive environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can connect with nature and learn about ecological practices.
However, the garden recently faced a challenge due to ongoing drought conditions in the Yorkshire region. With dry conditions limiting access to reliable water sources, the project’s ability to maintain healthy crops and run educational programs could be at risk this season.
Support to Keep the Garden Growing
To help ensure the garden could continue its important work, Mobile Water Solutions provided six Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs), supplying a total of 6,000 litres of clean water. We also committed to filling Nettles and Petals’ seven existing IBCs and refilling these containers free of charge for as long as needed. Additionally, we supplied a water tank to enable rainwater harvesting, supporting a more sustainable and resilient water supply for the garden.

“As the community project is off grid, we rely on rainwater harvesting systems to irrigate the crops we grow and to hydrate the soil. In spring within the UK, rainwater isn’t usually something we lack but this year with the endless sunshine it has made irrigating the young plants difficult and this has almost halted the project. We are so grateful for this support, greatly needed to get us through this dry period and ensure we can support the community with fresh organic produce this season.”
Supporting a Shared Mission
This partnership reflects our core commitment through #MissionWater: to revalue water not only as an industrial resource but as a shared, vital asset that sustains communities and ecosystems alike. We believe access to water should never be a barrier to projects that deliver positive social and environmental
